Metropolitan Tennis Group (MTG) proudly presents the 2022 Liberty Open, a Gay & Lesbian Tennis Alliance (GLTA) tournament played at a state-of-the-art facility, Carey Leeds Center for Tennis & Learning. Carey Leeds is home to many professional events including World Team Tennis, and WTA warm up tournaments before the US Open.

We are asking all players to come out and say hello to each other at our Welcome Party. Enjoy a drink, pick up your player bag, get your awesome Liberty Open Tournament T-Shirt, meet other tennis lovers, and check out your on-court rivals. Note: RISE will likely be broadcasting the next episode of Rupaul's Drag Race All Stars All-Winners season after the event.

Day 2 (Quarters and Semifinals, Consolation Tournament Begins)

Any player who loses their first singles match will be eligible to play in singles consolation, an entirely new chance for glory as you compete in pro-sets to get to the consolation final on day 3. More information will be provided after your first match.

ALL PLAYERS, including all members of the Metropolitan Tennis Group are invited to this low-key player party - celebrating the weekend - and giving a toast to those who will be competing in the finals the next day. We will have some finger foods and a drink for tournament players. Please join us.

All finals are scheduled for this final day of the tournament. Come show your support for finalists and champions.  


Other Information 

  1. FACILITY: All matches will take place at the Carey Leeds Center For Tennis & Learning, Bronx, New York. Accessible via #2 and # 5 trains (10-15 minute walk to venue) or # 4 or D train to 170th Street combined with 10 minute bus ride that takes you right near the center inside Crotona park.  On street parking also available if you drive.

    Please plan ahead for possible travel delays. Make sure to check the MTA website or MTA's Twitter feed for any service delays or interruptions.  Aim to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your match. This will give you time to check in, say hi to your friends, visit the locker room, etc., and still be on time for the start of your match. 
     
  2. TOURNAMENT DESK: The Tournament Desk will be located in the main lobby of the Carey Leeds venue. 
     
  3. AMENITIES:  Shower facilities are located in the locker rooms of the indoor facility. 
     
  4. COURTS: We will be using OUTDOOR courts only. We will try to give everyone matches on the different courts, but please note, in order to keep on schedule - assignments will be done on a “next court available” basis.
     
  5. NO PETS: Carey Leeds Center will be enforcing this policy. If you bring a pet, you will not be allowed in the center, which may result in your having to forfeit a match. 
     
  6. SOCIAL MEDIA: We want to see your preparations for the tournament and we want you to stay engaged throughout the weekend using the Liberty Open Facebook group, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook with the tag #LibertyOpen2022 and #GLTA and @gltaworldtour  Get those posts coming fast and furious and help to get the excitement building!
     

Draws and Match Schedule 

The tournament draws and initial schedule have been posted on the tournament landing page: Liberty Open 2022. The schedule or match format is subject to change in the event of weather interruptions, but any change will be communicated in advance. We will do all we can to stick to the schedule and format as planned. Be sure to arrive early for your matches so that things run smoothly. We follow USTA guidelines as it relates to arriving late for a scheduled match. 

Consolation scheduling will be provided after first matches, and will be open to all players who lose their opening singles match. Consolation lay begins on day 2 (see below for an overview of the weekend).

Match Format:

All main draw matches, including finals, will be the best 2 out of 3 sets, regular ad scoring, with the 3rd set being a first-to-10 supertiebreak.  

All consolation matches will be an 8 game, no-ad, pro-set with a first-to-7 point tiebreak at 7-7. Consolation finals will be the best 2 out of 3 sets, with the 3rd set being a first-to-10 supertiebreak. Due to the draw size, age division consolations will be combined with regular divisions in B and C.
