    The 2018-19 Winter Doubles season has begun!  Matches are held Sunday evenings, 6-10pm at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The fee is $175 for seven matches through March 17.  As in USTA, each match is 2-of-3 sets, with a SuperTiebreak in lieu of third set, with a 2-hour time limit (including warm-up).  

    Coordinators will pair up people who request partners. 

    To register, you will go to the GLTA tournament page at the link below, and follow the directions.  You will need to sign in using your GLTA login ID and password, not your MTG login ID.  If you do not have a GLTA login ID, you can create one.

    You may request up to 3 "unavailable" dates. Each pair will also be granted one reschedule of a match after the season's schedule has been posted. 

    We have more courts each week than last year and have fewer nights of play, so the season should move a little more quickly than before.  

    Note: WDL is open only to current members of MTG. We will be checking registrants to confirm that memberships are up-to-date.  If you plan to play, please renew your membership, if you haven't already done so.  (MTG memberships run September 1 - August 31.)

    MTG at West Side Tennis Club in Forest Hills!

    Come play at the historic WSTC, the former home of the U.S. Open and since its opening in 1892, has hosted The Beatles, The Who, Diana Ross and many others.  Read More.

    Work on your form and skill under the instruction of a WSTC Pro. Each player will be rotated between instruction and on court match play.

    You’ll be matched with a group equal to or close to your level of play as listed during registration. The playing surface is Har-Tru.

    Check in at the front desk at least 15 minutes prior to start time, they will direct you to our meeting place.  

    WSTC Directions and Parking Instructions - The club is easily accessible with many transportation options.

    WSTC Guest Policy - As guests of a private club, become familiar with and follow the guest policies.  

    Payment and Cancellation Policies:

    Payment must be tendered at time of event registration.  Any registration received without a concurrent payment will be automatically placed on the wait list.

    Cancellation must be received 72 hours prior to event in order to receive a refund.  As a courtesy, if you are unable to attend, please let the coordinator know as soon as possible.  This enables coordinators to notify those on the waitlist and to prepare the schedule prior to the event.

    Walk-Ins are not allowed.  All players must be registered and paid prior to the event.

    Former Ghanese David Cup player Michael Nortey will be coaching and overseeing ourdoubles clinic.  Michael will work will all registrants to help everyone develop and refine their doubles play technique, strategy and performance.

    If you are driving there or taking a cab, please use 1720 Crotona Avenue Bronx, NY 10457 as your destination address. 

    The nearest train station is the 174th Street station taking the # 2 or # 5 trains. After taking the train, a 10 minute walk across the park will get you to the complex. The Bx 11 & BX 17 buses stops right in front of the tennis facility.

    You can also take the "D" train or #4 train to 170th & Grand Concourse and connect with the Bx11 Bus there (a 15 min ride heading east).  You can also catch the Bx 11 bus from the 178th st Street / Port Authority "A" train  station in Washington Heights

    THIS IS A SOCIAL DOUBLES EVENT.  We will do our best to pair you with players of same or comparable levels, but we cannot guarantee it.  Please remember that this is primarily a social doubles event and therefore the focus is on camaraderie, making new tennis friends and mutual fun and support.  This is not USTA League setting.  Have fun, be considerate of one another and meet your fellow MTG community!


    We're thankful for volunteers! Interested in assisting with MTG's monthly doubles parties at the National Tennis Center?  Each month, we will choose one player to assist the coordinator before the party begins and during the social hour.  You'll be lending a much-needed hand and getting a glimpse into how the Board works to put on fun and successful events for MTG members.  Plus, as a thank you, you'll get to play the doubles party for free!  Please contact the coordinator for details.

    Join us for some Drill & Play Tennis on Har-Tru courts at the conveniently located Roosevelt Island Racquet Club(RIRC).  

    The rotating format gives players the opportunity to meet and play with various other players. Plus, there will be a court with a pro to lead the group through drills to help enhance your game. Drills will be structured with dead ball feeds working on movement and strokes.

    RIRC Directions

    PLEASE MEET IN THE RECEPTION AREA. Arrive a few minutes early so that the court assignments can be distributed and orientation to the facility can be provided to all attendees. The sooner we go through the formalities, the sooner we get on the courts! 

    FOOD / BEVERAGE:

    No food or drink will be provided by MTG for this event.
    There is fresh/cold water on each court. Feel free to bring your own drinks, but PLEASE be careful on the courts and clean up after yourselves. 


    AFTER PARTY:

    For those interested we will head over to Riverwalk Bar and Grill for a quick drink and eats!   


    LOCKERS:

    There are full locker room facilities available (including showers) with limited availability to lockers.  If you want to use a locker, please remember to bring a lock.

    PLEASE NOTE: In case of a sold-out event, priority will be given to those who are 1 (beginner) 1.5 (intermediate beginner) 2.0 (advanced beginner) and 2.5 (intermediate).  We welcome 3.0 as well (advanced intermediate).

    Facility: Manhattan Plaza Racquet Club (MPRC) located
    450 W. 43rd St., between 9th & 10th Aves. (212-594-0554).

    • Directions via train: A,C,E to 42nd St.& 8th Ave. Exit on the west side of 8th Ave. Walk west along 43rd St. The entrance is on the south side of 43rd St., between a florist and the Food Emporium. Ring the buzzer, wait for a response, and proceed up the steps to the next door, where you will automatically be buzzed through. Go up one flight to the entry.

    Meeting: We will gather in the lobby/lounge. Please arrive by 7:45 pm to allow yourself time to change in the locker rooms. After we are finished playing at 10, you are welcome to join us for a social get together at a nearby restaurant.  Its a fun way to get to know each other better.

    Food/Beverage: No food or drink will be provided by MTG for this event. Feel free to bring your own drinks, but please be careful on the courts. There are usually water coolers positioned at each court with disposable cups.

    The Women of MTG at Manhattan Plaza Racquet Club(MPRC).

    All levels are welcome to join this party.

    This event will be broken up into three 40 minutes session with the players rotating to different courts for each session.

    We will have one drill court, one court with a pro for doubles strategy instruction, one court for singles, and three doubles courts. 

    While the coordinators of this event will do their best to match you with players close to your reported level, we can't guarantee there will be an exact match. In that same spirit, we'll do our to accommodate special requests, but can't guarantee we can meet special requests. 

    Check in at the front desk at least 15 minutes prior to start time.

    MPRC Directions and Parking - The club is easily accessible to many public transportation options. The entrance is on the south side of 43rd St., between a florist and the Food Emporium.     MTG's popular tennis "boot camp" weekend!

    Great tennis facility located 2.5 hours north of NYC. Ten hours of group instruction (four to a group, plus an individual half-hour private lesson) led by USTA-certified professional instructors. First-class dining, double-room occupancy included in price ($545.00). Also included are a hot tub and sauna, a recreation lodge with pool, ping pong and foosball (for your other competitive game needs), and a Saturday-night happy hour before dinner.

    Restringing available on site (massages too) for additional fees.

    Carpools will be arranged. Check-in starts at 1 pm on Friday—first session starts at 2.
