Globally recognized GLTA-sanctioned LGBTQ+ tennis tournament welcomed more than 150 players from over 20 cities to New York City.
NEW YORK, NY - July 13, 2026 — More than 150 players from over 20 cities competed in 198 matches across 15 singles and doubles events over three days as the Metropolitan Tennis Group (MTG) hosted the 2026 Liberty Open, a globally recognized GLTA-sanctioned LGBTQ+ tennis tournament, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The tournament highlighted the strength and visibility of LGBTQ+ tennis, bringing together athletes, volunteers, sponsors, and fans for a weekend celebrating excellence on the court and belonging off it. "Love All is both a tennis truth and a cultural value," said Kevin Ko, Liberty Open Tournament Director. "This weekend showed what that looks like in action—competitive tennis, connections, and a community where everyone belongs. Our partnership with the USTA continues to demonstrate that LGBTQ+ players belong on tennis's biggest stages, and that inclusion makes our sport stronger." Over three days of competition, players from across the United States and Canada showcased high-level tennis while celebrating the tournament's longstanding commitment to inclusion, sportsmanship, and belonging. The tournament welcomed competitors ranging from first-time participants to returning champions, with titles awarded across 15 singles and doubles divisions, reinforcing Liberty Open's place as one of the GLTA Tour's longest-running tournaments. Beyond the competition, the weekend featured a Players' Draw Party, a banquet conversation with Edward Schmit, author of The Open Era, moderated by comedian and emcee Chaka Khanvict, performances by Jason A. Rodriguez & the Vogue Troupe, and the Love All Ball, hosted by ballroom icon Kevin Jz Prodigy, which invited players and guests onto the ballroom floor for a vibrant celebration of community and self-expression. The weekend also raised funds to benefit The Trevor Project, supporting its life-saving crisis intervention and suicide prevention services for LGBTQ+ young people. "Sport can be a lifeline—especially when it creates belonging," said Khai Nguyen, Communications Director, Metropolitan Tennis Group. "Supporting The Trevor Project through the Liberty Open is a tangible way our community shows up for LGBTQ+ youth. Visibility, connection, and care save lives, and this tournament stands at the intersection of all three." Hosted at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, Liberty Open continued its partnership with the USTA to expand opportunities and visibility for LGBTQ+ tennis players while fostering a welcoming environment for athletes of all backgrounds. The tournament was made possible through the dedication of dozens of volunteers, sponsors, and supporters who helped create an exceptional experience for every player throughout the weekend. Building on another successful year, the Metropolitan Tennis Group looks forward to welcoming players back for Liberty Open 2027 as it continues its mission of building community through tennis.
