Play tennis and help raise money for a very important cause! Once again this year we are holding our immensely popular Matthew Shepard Tennis Jam to collect funds for The Matthew Shepard Foundation.

Event Date: Saturday, October 24th,  12pm-4pm

Rain date: Sunday, October 25th, 12pm-4pm

The Matthew Shepard Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that promotes tolerance and acceptance of all people regardless of sexual orientation, color, religion and culture. The organization's primary mission is to visit schools and community/religious organizations throughout the country to dispel fear, educate and encourage people to embrace and celebrate diversity. The Foundation has also successfully lobbied for the extension of the federal hate crime laws to include punishment for crimes committed and motivated by LGBT fear and hatred. Please visit for more information on this wonderful organization.

Our Matthew Shepard Tennis Jam will consist of round-robin tennis from 12PM to 4PM. We will have food, drink and a grand raffle with lots of cool prizes. This will be a non-competitive tennis event. All playing levels are welcome, and everyone will be randomly mixed up for game play. The goal here is not competition but rather to socialize, play tennis and enjoy the company of those around you both on and off the court. This event is a celebration of life and of our diversity. During off-court time you can meet and talk to fellow MTG-ers and engage other non-MTG players who are supporting the event.

Suggested donation is $30. More generous donations are encouraged. All donations are tax deductible and go directly to help fund the organization's work.

Please contact Nader Kassis for more information and/or to help volunteer at the

Donations to the Matthew Shepard Foundation can also be made on MTG's Donations page.

Hope to see you all there!

Make sure to register ASAP for MTG's popular event of the year!  This year's Winter Doubles League [WDL] will take place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Sundays evenings.

For most Sundays, six [6] matches will be played from 5:30-7:30 and six [6] more will be played from 7:30-9:30. The seasonal schedule for any team will have split matches between the two time slots.  For November and December, due to scheduling conflicts at the venue, matches will be played from 7:00-9:00 and from 9:00-11:00.

No matches will be scheduled on the following dates: 11/15/15; 11/29/15; 12/20/15; 12/27/15; 01/17/16; 02/14/16; and 03/27/16.

WDL is great for players of all skill levels, as there are multiple divisions.  Each division will have 8 teams, so you will get to play 7 matches over the course of the Winter Season [October - April].

Please note you must be a

Email your favorite doubles partner and ask him/her to play with you, please make sure they sign up as soon as possible.

If you'd like to play and don't have a doubles partner, don't worry; we will pair you up with someone of a similar skill level.

MTG is considering concluding the season with a championship match this year.  The idea is that the top 2 teams in each division would qualify for an extra match, and depending on the number of divisions in comparable levels, either:

the 2 teams may play each other in an extra match, if there is no other division of a comparable level, with the possibility the winning team from the 7-match season might come in 2nd as a result of the playoff; or

the top team from 2 divisions of a comparable level will play each other for first place; the 2 runner-up teams from these 2 divisions would play for 3rd place.

We are trying to get a sense of how the players want the season to end so please indicate on your registration, if you like the play-off idea mentioned above or if you would like the season to end for everyone at 7 matches.

The most important thing is to register now as this event WILL SELL OUT - last year, WDL sold out in less than 2 weeks!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the WDL Coordinators (Juan Arevalo and John Biers) at  Please do not use the individual emails addresses for each coordinator.
